To launch this month’s series on Discovering Your Purpose, it is important that we shed light on what scripture says about purpose.
Part of my spiritual growth has been seeking out God for myself and really understanding his purpose for me. I am by no means a preacher or qualified to give opinions about what your purpose is, but I can encourage you today with his word.
For my spiritual readers, I think it is important that we seek God’s word in every area of our lives. I’m sure we have asked ourselves, “What is my purpose in life?” “Am I missing out on what God truly has planned for me?” “How do I know my purpose when it comes?” The answers to these questions are truly gotten from your relationship with God. He will reveal to you next steps and show you grace and happiness as you progress through life.
The first thing God reveals about purpose is that YOU HAVE ONE!
Exodus 9:16 “But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
Many people, especially women, have already been defeated mentally before they realize they are on earth to do way more than they think. It is important that you understand that God has a unique purpose for all of us despite your upbringing, background or your past. In the above scripture, God is saying, you have a purpose. Yes, YOU.
Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you”.
Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
We all know that life is not a bed of roses. There will be challenges as we try to find our purpose and God has promised to counsel us and teach the way we should go, if we trust him. I believe that the lessons you learn in difficult situations, will equip you to be better in the next step of your purpose.
Romans 12:6 “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us”
Sometimes, we are tempted to compare ourselves to others and we forget that we are all unique and blessed with different gifts. One of the things that make the journey even more challenging is when you are trying to be like someone else instead of focusing on your uniqueness. Everyone’s purpose on earth is unique and we need to embrace that. The sooner we stop looking at what others are doing and focus on our God given talents, the more effective we can be in fulfilling God’s purpose in our lives.
Proverbs 19:21 “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails”
We all have plans and passions we are hoping to accomplish, but at the end of the day, God’s will be done. This verse speaks for itself. God’s purpose for us is way better than we can ever imagine. We need to trust that he has the master plan and his intentions for us are for good.
